Ohana o nuhanu   22" by 22"   Means family of turtles in Hawiian. I used an  image from a potograph I took in Maui, then printed it several times in different sizes onto cotton fabric. I appliqued the images to the body of the quilt then machine stitched and hand beaded. It is hard to see but the backs of each of the turtles are encrusted with beads. Then I added a  few interesting large beads and icons to each corner for the final touch.   Details are hard to see on this one but I can email detail photos if you are interested.

Desert Rhapsody  25" by 26"  T
his quilt was made using fabric that I printed with the image of a collage I had made titled Summer Heat. The colors have been twicked in some of the squares. The collage can be seen on the collages page. This quilt  has been all hand appliqued together, then machine stitched in wavy patternsto give an added feeling o heat.  The borders are commercial fabrics. The flowers are made from the same fabric as the borders with purple antique crystal beads
in the centers. The ribbons actually extend beyond the border about 4 inches.

Falling Leaves/Leaves Falling
was constructed using discontinued drapery samples on their way to the dumpster. I used one sample line with 3 different color ways. On some sections I did heavy machine stitchery using glossy threads. The leaves came from another group of drapery samples in different colors. Made in winter of 2007. 21w by 22h

Life's Stories/Connecting Threads is a quilt I did for a show in Sequim Washington in 2007. I had been given a bag of antique handmade lace and I wanted to honor the anonymous maker of this beautiful lace. I had seen a vest made using the small "pillows" and thought that concept would be perfect for creating different "stories". I lashed each square together with ribbon which is the "connecting threads". There is tatted lace and knitted lace by an unknown person and I used this beautiful work to tell a story. There are many Chinese icons, broken jewelry, and even a tatting shuttle with a bobbin of thread (on blue pillow) which is still attached to the piece of tatted lace at the top of the quilt. The 2 small pieces of lace on the bottom pillow are at least 100 years old.
